The planet Venus has moved into a line with the twin stars, Castor and Pollux in the Constellation of the Twins.  By June 5th, Venus will have entered the sign of Leo and the Crab Constellation while on the other side of the Crab, the planet Jupiter eagerly awaits the pending meeting (or conjunction) with the goddess as she gets her crown back at the end of the month.  Venus has exited the Sacred Hoop of Stars from Lakota teachings and is nearing the last phase of a 19-month cycle.

This weekend will be a perfect time to see this alignment (after sundown) with the Moon entering its waning gibbous Planet-Star Alignment June 5 2015phase on the other side of the night sky.  The Twins, Castor and Pollux are relatively equal in brightness and are easily noticeable in a semi-urban skies, but are mere pinpricks in comparison the bright jewel of Venus.  Castor and Pollux have a long record in myth and story, including temples built to honor them by the Romans.  The Twins marked Spring Equinox 8,000 years ago, making the stars and constellation very special to peoples throughout the globe.

Jupiter, meanwhile, holds its own against the backdrop of stars, in the sign of Leo, less than two widths of a closed hand (with arm extended) away and higher in the sky.  Between both Jupiter and Venus is the Crab Constellation, but it can only really be seen under dark or semi-dark sky conditions.  When seen, one can make out a irregular “X” shape  that was considered a crab-like animal (from ancient Mesopotamia and Greece), though other cultures looked at it differently.  The Egyptians of 3000 BC saw it as a scarab beetle.  There is even mention in the book, Star Lore by William Olcott, this constellation was also looked at as a turtle or tortoise.

Both Jupiter and Venus are making their way for a very close conjunction period between June 28th and July 3rd very near the Heart of the Lion, the star Regulus.  Prior to that, the waxing Crescent Moon will make for a triple conjunction on June 20th, just about day before the Summer Solstice, where we experience maximum light here in the Northern Hemisphere of the Earth.
