Saturn in Capricorn

Recently, I’ve been making presentations and talks about the upcoming ingress of the planet Saturn into the sign of Capricorn.  What I’ve learned from the research and from making these presentations is that it is on the minds of many or certainly reflected on those experiencing something big on the way.

What’s on the way is an incredible alignment anchored by the planet Saturn in the next few years, but it’s pre-echoes are already being felt.  What is happening is that we as humanity are approaching the next phase in the ongoing Turning of the Ages that Daniel Giamario shares often in his talks and classes.  Many other astrologers, healers and those that are tuned into the times also are sharing their thoughts about what is happening now and what is upcoming.

This is an astrological transit that is anything but “light and easy” as the last time Saturn was in Capricorn was in a period between 1988 and early 1991, during the fall of the Soviet Union and economic crises in the form of a recession, especially here in the US.  It was also taking place during the triple conjunction of Saturn, Neptune and Uranus, a very rare alignment that can change the direction of nations.

What is Saturn in Shamanic Astrology?

In terms of visible planets, Saturn, the 6th planet from the Sun, marks the traditional boundary of what we can easily see.   Saturn is a planet that represents growth through limits and boundaries, human laws/rules and what makes civilization a civilization as we know it.  Once known as the “Lord of Time”, linear time, calendars and how we measure time is a large part of Saturn.  As a “middle world” planet, Saturn is a teacher, guide and initiator for us in nearly anything involving the “real world”.  It also symbolizes an eternal well of knowledge.

On another level, it represents the right use of resources and money, weighing of major life decisions, getting real with one’s life, shedding of the skin or old story, planting the seeds of one’s future or life path that is in harmony with a person’s soul’s intent.  Saturn can also act a pressure/stress point for people and humanity.  It is a contractive energy and guides through concerted effort down a particular path.

Saturn moving into Capricorn this time around will also feature a very rare triple conjunction, but this time with Saturn, Jupiter and Pluto.  This happens about once every 150+ years and only once every 734 years in Capricorn/Aquarius.  The rarer the alignment, the more potent and important it is in general.

December 19, 2017 – Saturn enters Capricorn through December, 2020

Aside from my own training with Daniel Giamario and Cayelin Castell, it is thanks to 2 books in particular, Hamlet’s Mill, an ageless book that is a celestial bible about how myth informs humanity that is literally written in stars and planets, and Richard Tarnas’ landmark book, Cosmos & Psyche, which goes into how powerful planetary alignments open up the doors for major shifts in civilizations, I’ve been able to understand to a large degree the intent of this upcoming alignment.

Saturn, when in alignment with other planets, can act as a stabilizer or grounding force.  It can also act to fuel pressure and stress where one is sensitive and vulnerable, especially in any structure or system.  Those contractive, pressuring and stress energies will act in varying ways depending upon the sign (archetype) Saturn happens to be in at the time of the transit.

Capricorn (but the Archer Constellation) is essentially a home for Saturn.  As the nature of Capricorn deals with the efficient management of systems, creating/maintaining an operating manual, building of structures, maintaining laws, standards and order in the world as well as a “results-driven” archetypal energy, it means that Saturn resonates with Capricorn.

Saturn in Capricorn means a deep and honest look at our current economic (taxes, trade systems, corporate-business, etc.), political (and ideological), social-economic, environmental, religious, industrial, military-industrial complex, bureaucracy, government, health and any mixture where laws come into play in real-world relationships, especially marital as well as laws about human and civil rights.

Saturn Connects with Pluto Beginning in 2018

The passage of Saturn through Capricorn has added meaning in this time because of the other planets in where they will be during this three-year period of time.  It really begins in 2018 when Saturn moves into the region of where Pluto has been for many years.  The forces of these 2 planets are what is typically considered the “heaviest” of all, in terms of their impact in our personal lives emotionally, monetarily and soulfully.

The impact and potency of these two planets will be felt even more in 2019 and 2020.  Richard Tarnas, in his book, Cosmos & Psyche, writes of “elements of contraction, including the separation of different nations/cultures, limiting growth, rigidly polarized conflict; shadows of conservatisms, policing and nightmare (or Apocalyptic) scenarios being seeded/envisioned.” During previous times when Saturn and Pluto have been in conjunction, in square or opposition with each other (known as “hard” or “dynamic” aspects, which really mean, “in relationship” with each other).  The 2018-2021 period is one of those times.

This is a planetary combination that has been known to bring about the collapse of long-standing structures and systems, including governments and movements.  But it also has been known to open up fissures for seeds to be planted of something new and long-lasting.  The intent of the alignment is to get humanity to see the shadow of what we have created.  And while we can be blinded in the extreme polarization of the cultural and political climates, the opportunity will exist to choose paths that allow us to surrender to we truly are, as we once were, living in harmony with Earth and Cosmos.

The pressure and stresses will likely be powerful during this period as the debris of all that we shoved or buried under the carpet or ground comes back up.  The shadow of our systems, laws and structures becomes visceral, real and vital.  We can choose to be motivated be fears only or choose to face the fears of our reality, allowing them to act as sensors detecting the truths lying buried in our unconscious selves.

Many may feel a sense of powerlessness during this time and even whole societies could be in that space.  It’s meaningful to feel and experience and it is recommended we embrace that feeling because it can lead to greater truths within ourselves, our cultures and what we’ve created here in the real world.  No one will be entirely immune to this planetary transit.

More on 2020

Paying attention to the night sky, one can enjoy a living and loving connection to the stars and planets.  On a practical level, one can better understand the movements of the planets across the plane of the solar system (aka, the ecliptic or path of the Sun in the sky).  For those who have been watching the night sky and in particular, the planet Jupiter year-in and year-out, you can see how much closer Jupiter is to the planet Saturn.  This will become more evident in the middle and late period of 2018, when they will be easy to spot less than 2 zodiacal constellations away from each other.

On one hand, this is exciting to see as Jupiter and Saturn only come together once every 20 years.  In 2020, they will be dancing together for much of that year in the sign of Capricorn.  While Pluto is not visible to the naked eye, the 2 other planets will be visible and plugged into the energetic connection with Pluto.  We’ll be feeling it, so it won’t be necessary to actually see it.

Jupiter in astrology or shamanic astrology expands and amplifies anything that it touches.  In other words, the Saturn-Pluto conjunction will be super-charged in 2020.  From the very outset of 2020 to the beginning of 2021, the 3 planets will be within a 15-degree orb of each other.  Between November 8-21 of 2020 and at the time of the US General Election, all 3 planets will be within 4 degrees of each other, a very tight alignment.

One other item to mention is the area of foreign relations with the United States, especially the areas of the Koreas and the Middle East.  When many of the current borders were drawn and/or governments formed in these two regions were when Saturn and Pluto were in dynamic/hard aspect.  And at each turn, powerful decisions and events took place that related to the regions, including the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, North Korea leaving the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the formation of Israel as a modern nation around the same time as North Korea being established (primarily by Russia).

The next octave of those regions will go through another powerful turn, if linear time shows us anything, as Saturn and Pluto come together.  It could be a completion of those seeds from over seven decades ago.  Saturn could assist in keeping the nukes in check but with Pluto one cannot predict exactly how the fears will be expressed by the governments at that time.

The last time the 3 of them were partying together that close was in years 848-849 while on the border of Pisces-Aries, a time when the Vikings began expansion into Britain and Western Europe and the beginnings of the end of the great Mayan civilization in what is known as Mexico and Guatemala today.

Final Thoughts on Saturn in Capricorn

All of what takes place that I’ve shared may seem negative or gloomy at first glance, but it is intended to create a focus on the opportunities we all have coming up soon.  Collapses of systems, structures and real-world attachments are part of this alignment, but we can choose to work with it constructively, including our deeper fears that we may have sheltered for many years.

We can choose to work collectively without being ruled by fear-based control systems and work creating a new system that functions in harmony with this emerging new age.  The current patriarchy as we know it is collapsing and we are already seeing its shadow and many of are calling it out during these last months of Saturn in Sagittarius.  Jupiter in Scorpio (Oct 2017 – Nov 2018) is helping amplify the shadow of the patriarchy and allowing us to see more truly.  This is where courage, strength and honesty rises up from a solid foundation to meet the crumbling systems that no longer work or serve the greater whole.

This emerging tide of whistle-blowers appears to be a force that cannot be stopped.  I believe that this is a large part of how the next few years will be played out.  A “Sea Change” is happening right now and will be felt and seen more prominently in this 2018-21 period of time, leading up to the Pluto Return (Pluto coming back to the same place it was where it was at the time of a birth) of the United States as a nation 2021-2024.

To help one’s self during these times, I would also add that we really show up for our lives and speak our truths and feel our feelings.  It is easier said than done, but it does work, especially on a soul-level.  There is no easy way through this time period.  We are at one of the most significant crossroads of crises of our time.  Where can we go?  Which way?  While electricity always flows down the path with the least resistance, we humans tend choose the other extreme as a collective.  It’s time to let go of who we were and embrace what we choose to become.
