THE TRICKSTER GODDESS
GEMINI OVERTONE SYNODIC CYCLE
JUNE 12, 2012 to JANUARY 16, 2014
“I’m youth; I’m joy; I’m the little bird that has broken out of the egg,” Peter Pan by JM Barrie
The transformation of the Scorpio Goddess into the Gemini Goddess is a once-in-a-lifetime event. The first time Venus rises as a “morning star” this year will occur in the sign of Gemini. This signifies the “overtone” of the entire Venus cycle. All of Venus’ synodic cycles are 584 days, with the transition period being in the “underworld” (Venus is considered to be in the underworld due to being invisible to the naked eye when it’s too close to the Sun, from Earth’s perspective) for about eight days. This time, when the transformation occurs, Venus transits the face of the Sun for its second pass in eight years. This event happened eight years ago and will not happen again for another 105 years.
What will the Gemini Goddess look like this time around? (The last time was eight years ago.) To answer that question, let’s begin with the transformation process from Scorpio to Gemini. This Scorpio overtone is the last one for a very long time, and she has re-claimed the deeper breath of the shaman the she had in ancient times. The manifestation of Scorpio has been to invoke passions, to channel one’s personal power and to walk with fear as an ally. The deeper emotions of humanity are now near the surface, with some of them already resting on the surface. These emotions lead to an abundance of creativity, awakening our desires. We are dancing in the knowledge that we can express these desires without shame or self-judgment.
While the gifts of the Goddess live on, her time as Scorpio Goddess is coming to an end. Her last dance as Scorpio will be remembered as she dares to pass in front of the Sun to show her truth and magic before transforming into Gemini. On June 12th, 2012, the Trickster Goddess (Gemini) will appear in the morning sky, just before the Sun rises. On the surface, she will appear similar to Scorpio in the early morning sky, but underneath, she will bear the energy of the Messenger, Eternal Youth, Coyote Woman and The Jester or Clown. While traditionally Gemini is energetically masculine, in actuality Gemini is both masculine and feminine.
Instead of residing in the lower chakras, as the Scorpio Goddess is felt, the Gemini Goddess is experienced in the chakras of the Third Eye and the Throat. This is a Goddess of the mind and tongue, who is comfortable playing the devil’s advocate, the contrarian or the comedian just because it is fun. The teachings of the Gemini Goddess give us permission to laugh more often, to allow more room to play, to create our own magic, to socialize with our friends, neighbors and family (while rotating often!), and to not take life too seriously.
For those who have a Gemini Overtone (or even more, having a Gemini Venus at your birth), the transformation process is much more personal. For women, this is an especially deep transformation and further evolution of who you are on an intimate level. For men, it’s about the development of your “inner other” (or feminine side). With Gemini energy, the inner other could literally be anything or anyone, shape-shifting time and again to other images. The evolution of the Gemini Goddess within a woman is becoming more and more the essence of being able to go “out of bounds” with the mind and creating her own rules, breaking them “just because,” and creating new rules.
The shape-shifting Goddess will be accompanied in the morning sky with Jupiter, who is also transiting through Gemini. The alignment of these two planets will be visible in the early morning skies in the east from the middle of June through July, as Venus goes direct and “pulls away” from Jupiter. Jupiter is an amplification of the Gemini energy overall. It’s a period of time to have fun, socialize and go beyond the rules and boundaries of ordinary life, to engage in something dynamic and creative and be open to seeing things upside down and sideways.
Daniel Giamario writes that the essence of Gemini “. . . is to fully know [that] the laws of nature do not affect you; you are truly free from the rule.” This is not a statement giving permission to start breaking the law “willy-nilly” but more to break from our own entrapments and binds in order to connect with our creative muses and divine fools.
For those people who are experiencing their Venus Return, pay attention to the morning skies when Venus will appear in conjunction with the crescent moon. Each of these conjunctions represents the Goddess’ journey down to the underworld and is a gate she must pass through in order to arrive at her destination. Once there, she “dies,” then is resurrected as the emerging Gemini Goddess. The first conjunction is on July 15th in the sign of Gemini, then again on August 13th in the sign of Cancer. Even when Venus travels through the zodiac during her 584-day cycle, the overtone of the sign/archetype is Gemini , when she first becomes visible in the early morning sky.
