After about 19 months, Venus begins her new synodic cycle on October 30, 2026. This takes place at the “heliacal rise” of Venus. A heliacal rise is when Venus is first seen in the early morning sky before sunrise. This was the general understanding going back many thousands of years to ancient Sumeria. A rule of thumb I use when determining a “heliacal rise” for Venus is when Venus get to 10 degrees from the Sun.
This Venus cycle will start in the sign of Libra, as that will be the sign that Venus will become visible. This happens at 27°02’ Libra and is the second time that Venus will rise in this sign with the first time being in 2018. Prior to that, Venus rose every 8 years in the sign of Scorpio. The sign of Libra is one of 5 current signs (forming a 5-pointed star) that she rises in the morning sky within an 8 year period.
The meaning of a Venus synodic cycle relates to the humanity’s intake of a new feminine energy. Venus represents the feminine principle or receptive force within us. Venus symbolizes how we can receive, connect with others, what we value within and appreciate around us. Since this Venus cycle also includes Scorpio due to Venus going back and forth in the signs of Scorpio and Libra, we can experience this as alchemy gradually emerging from Scorpio into Libra.
The sign of Libra is about conscious, equal relationships but also about fairness and justice. It is a passive archetypal expression in the zodiac, especially relative to Scorpio and most other astrological signs. Libra is about taking a more tactful and softer approach to any decisions and actions. But Libra usually follows the lead of others and tends to have challenges individuating beyond is immersion in various relationships.
However, Libra can be quite good at knowing the needs of others and being there in support of others, esepcially those that it is involved with. Libra is ALWAYS going to be interested in forming relationships and is unlikely to be the first to end any of them. As Libra emerges from Scorpio in this new Venus Synodic Cycle, it retains some of the passions and depth that fuel Scorpio. Scorpio can be a “fiery” and cathartic water sign that is equipped with a strong will and desire to manifest anything it wants. Once Scorpio fixes itself onto something it desires, it is usually a long road to letting that desire go.
The Venus Synodic Cycle runs in duration 584 days or 19 months from heliacal rise to the next heliacal rise. In this incarnation of Venus, it runs from October 30, 2026 to June 7, 2028. At that point, Venus will have its heliacal rise ar 07°34’ Gemini.
There are 4 major phases of the synodic cycle: Descent, Underworld, Ascent and Metamorphic. In the Ascent and Descent phases, the Moon-Venus conjunctions are critical to understanding the deeper meaning behind the cycle and phase. These conjunctions symbolize the activation of the main chakras (or energy centers) in the body from the crown to root plus a possible 8th chakra activation (in the Descent phase) and from root to crown plus a potential 8th chakra activation (in the Ascent phase). In the Underworld phase, this is when Venus is no longer visible and is in a “death-rebirth”, orbiting on the other side of the Sun from Earth and visually emerging from the morning sky appearance to the evening sky appearance. This can last 60-70 days or so.
The Metamorphic phase starts when Venus is retrograde and includes about a 8-12 day period were she passes between the Earth and Sun, “metamorphisizing” from an evening appearance to her heliacal rise and hence a new synodic cycle.
